Maximierung der Netzwerk- und Server-Uptime
GFI Network Server Monitor sorgt für eine optimale Verfügbarkeit von Netzwerken, indem mit Microsoft Windows und Linux betriebene Server und sogar Workstations und andere Geräte wie Router umfassend überwacht werden. Wird eine Fehlfunktion entdeckt, erhalten Administratoren eine Warnung per E-Mail, Pager oder SMS. Außerdem lassen sich zuvor festgelegte Gegenmaßnahmen automatisch einleiten, z. B. der Neustart des betroffenen Servers oder Diensts oder auch die Ausführung eines Skripts.
Direkte Funktionskontrolle von Diensten
Der Status eines Diensts wird unmittelbar überprüft, statt ihn lediglich aus ausgegebenen Events abzuleiten – eine gängige Vorgehensweise anderer Produkte. Überwachungsregeln für folgende Bereiche stehen bereits standardmäßig zur Verfügung: Microsoft Exchange Server 2000/2003, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle- und ODBC-Datenbanken, CPU-Last, FTP- und HTTP-Server, Gruppenmitgliedschaften, Active Directory und NTDS, Festplattenzustand und -belegung, Ereignisprotokolle (mit Inhaltskontrolle), Dateipräsenz (mit Inhaltskontrolle), TCP, ICMP/Ping, SMTP- und POP3-Mailserver, Drucker, Prozesse, UNIX Shell Scripts (RSH), SNMP- und Terminalserver.
Zudem lassen sich eigene Überwachungsfunktionen in VBScript erstellen und die Vorteile von ADSI und WMI nutzen, um unterschiedlichste Kontrollbereiche abzudecken.
