Error: 'C-0007' when sending a fax from the GFI FaxMaker Fax Message Form

PROBLEM

When trying to send a fax from the GFI FaxMaker Fax Message Form, the following error may be encountered:

Error: C-0007 - Send failed: make sure that you have your SMTP settings from the GFI FaxMaker Message Form options correctly set up.

ENVIRONMENT

  • GFI FaxMaker
  • All Supported Environments

SOLUTION

When this occurs, the following should be checked:
  1. In the GFI FaxMaker Fax Message Form > Options... > SMTP Options, ensure that the email address is valid, and is for a Licensed user configured in the GFI FaxMaker user configuration

  2. Also, in the GFI FaxMaker Fax Message Form > Options... > SMTP Options, ensure that the 'Mail server name/IP and port' specified are correct.  It is recommended to use the IP address of the GFI FaxMaker Server as the 'Mail Server Name / IP'.  Note: How to send faxes through GFI FaxMaker using the client, with no Exchange in organization

    • Should you have GFI MailEssentials 14 or later installed on the same Mail Server which is configured within the GFI FaxMaker Client, ensure that you exclude the 'smsmaker.com' and 'faxmaker.com' domains from the list of domains to be scanned.  You can do this by performing the following:

      1. Open the GFI MailEssentials Configuration

      2. Right click on the General Node and select properties

      3. Click on the 'Inbound Email Domains' Tab and remove the 'faxmaker.com' and 'smsmaker.com' domains from the list

  3. You must also ensure that the Mail Server, which is discussed in point 2 above, allows relaying from the GFI FaxMaker client machine.  The GFI FaxMaker Client will fail to send a fax should the client machine not be allowed to relay on the Mail Server configured within the GFI FaxMaker Client.

    1. IF you are running Microsoft Exchange server 2003 as the SMTP server for the client, you can enable relaying using the procedure mentioned on the Microsoft article on how to Control SMTP Relaying with Microsoft Exchange: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd277329.aspx

      • Note: If you have a different SMTP Mail Server, please check with the documentation of this Mail Server on how to enable relaying

    2. IF you have installed GFI FaxMaker on a Microsoft Exchange 2007 / 2010 server, you need to ensure that the GFI FaxMaker receive connector is allowing the computers running the GFI FaxMaker client to relay.  You can do this by performing the following:

      1. Open the Microsoft Exchange Management Console

      2. Expand the Server Configuration node and click on Hub Transport

      3. Under the Receive Connectors tab in the right pane, right click on the GFI FaxMaker connector

      4. Click on the Network tab

      5. You will need to define the IP addresses or network range of the computers that will be using the GFI FaxMaker client to send their faxes.  Click on the Add button under 'Receive mail from remote servers that have these IP addresses' to add these IP addresses

      6. Enter the IP address or address range of the computers running the GFI FaxMaker Client.  Example '192.168.1.0/24' or '192.168.1.1'

      7. Click OK to save changes

      8. Click OK once again to save the changes to the connector

    3. IF GFI FaxMaker is installed on a standalone IIS, SMTP instance, note: How to edit Relay settings for the GFI FaxMaker SMTP instance

  4. Ensure that on the GFI FaxMaker Server machine, there is no restriction on the message size in the SMTP properties

  5. Confirm that the GFI FaxMaker client machine can connect to the SMTP server discussed in point 2.  To test this, go to the command prompt (Start -> Run... -> cmd.exe) and type the following:

    1. TELNET <IP of SMTP server in SMTP options> <port number in SMTP options>

      • Example, if the IP specified in the SMTP options is 10.10.10.1 and the port is 25, the following should be written: TELNET 10.10.10.1 25

    2. Press enter and see that you get a successful connection.  If this connection fails, then you need to check your network settings, and your SMTP server settings

  6. If there is any Anti-Virus installed on the same machine as the client, please exclude  ../Program Files/GFI/FaxMaker Client and all sub-directories
